Assume this is related to extra pressure from people working from home.

Unable to make calls on my Vodafone mobile for the past hour, just a pre recorded message, your call cannot proceed at this time due to congestion.

Is this network wide I wonder, or just my location. New Lynn, West Auckland.

My wife (works for Telco) has advised that their networks are experience greatly increase traffic this morning due to folks working from home etc.

edit: she advises that things should be improving as extra capacity has been added on their network which is also the Spark network.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's affecting land lines too. Had a couple of people try to phone me and the network was congested.

That message could be coming from the B party network

It’s happening when I call 777, so appears to be coming from Vodafone too.

Lots of congestion across voice networks it seems.

So far for us, Voyager and 2talk both reporting congestion issues.

Not surprisingly, we our seeing our medical customers systems getting smashed from inbound calls.

Calling from Vodafone in Wellington suburbs to Auckland business land line I got this once, tried again 30s later and it went through. Not surprised things are congested, I suspect infrastructure everywhere will be hitting capacity.

We're aware of some voice network congestion and are busy trying to sort it out. There was some planned work earlier last week to avoid getting in this situation, but it didn't go too well, so unfortunately hitting problems now that everyone is working from home.

I’ve been advised [an earlier issue with land line calls] should be resolved

[edit]

Mobile calls are still luck of the draw.

From TCF:

The New Zealand telecommunications industry is working quickly and collaboratively to remedy calling issues that have stemmed from a significant increase in the volume of voice calls on both mobiles and landlines.

CEO of the New Zealand Telecommunications Forum (TCF) and industry spokesperson Geoff Thorn said that mobile operators have been experiencing high call volumes which is resulting in some points of congestion across the country.

“In light of the evolving COVID-19 situation the technical teams of all operators have been working together on a daily basis to ensure the entire industry is aligned and focussed on fixing congestion issues as they occur,” said Thorn.

“We are looking at this issue with urgency to rectify it for all New Zealanders.”

New Zealanders are encouraged to use internet-based calling options such as Skype or Facetime until this issue is fixed.

Can’t get through to any local landline numbers in the Wairarapa from my VF cell. Call quality earlier was awful. Now not possible.
