I'm trying to get VoLTE working on my phone, but am not having any luck; I was hoping someone here may be able to troubleshoot the cause or confirm if they've got it working.

  • Kogan have confirmed that they support VoLTE (via their use of the Vodafone network)
  • my phone (S10+) supports VoLTE; it is running Android 10 and has the latest update installed
  • VoLTE is enabled on the phone
  • the phone is a 2Degrees unit; a post on the Voda VoLTE thread confirms that this combination (2 Deg firmware; VoLTE on the Voda network) works fine
  • I live and work in a 4G urban area, but at no point have I seen the VoLTE symbol on my phone

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the issue here?

Also, are there any Kogan Mobile users out there who can confirm whether they have VoLTE working?

Thanks for any thoughts.

VoLTE must not be provisioned on your mobile number in the backend, Kogan mobile will be looking at the front end and not physically on the IMS platform.

Thanks. Is that the specific message I should pass onto the Kogan helpdesk staff? And suggest they escalate it up the chain?

If they can deprovison it in Sibel then ask them to remove VoLTE and readd it, I am not even sure if they have the ability to action this!

Thanks for confirming that. So is there anything that could be wrong my end? Or in relation to VOLTE in my location (Palmerston North)?

Next step will be to pass on the suggestions from Linux above to Kogan’s CSRs and get them to escalate it if it can’t be sorted.

If you tried in other locations and still not working you should ask them to escalate this to Vodafone.

Sounds like it's not provisioned on the IMS platform

Ok, will try in Upper Hutt when I'm there later in the week; if still no luck will follow up with Kogan.

Thanks for the advice and ideas - useful as always.

Can you try a Vodafone SIM in your phone and confirm that works?

Yep, that also was a plan, but I don’t have family/friends (that I know of) who are with Voda. Work phones are with them, though, so perhaps may be able to borrow a SIM off a colleague...

Well, here's the evidence it's not my problem (borrowed someone's Voda SIM), but clearly something Kogan needs to sort out. Now I've confirmed it's not my end I'll use the info provided above to get them to sort it out.

Try your Kogan sim in a Vodafone supplied phone (S10 or S10+). See if you get VoLTE on it

No access to a compatible Voda-issued phone. Examples above also show VoLTE working on a 2D phone with both a Voda and Kogan SIM, so it seems specific to my setup with Kogan surely?

Yes, it is specific to the Kogan setup in the phones firmware. Even if the sim is provisioned, VoLTE wont work on compatible phone unless the phone has the MVNO specific config.

You will get a clear idea when you try your Kogan SIM on a Voda supplied/firmware phone. Should have the latest upto date software.
