Hi, just checking in to see if it's just my phone failing or if there's been some change / blacklisting of working-but-unsupported phone models.

I have a Nokia 2720 Flip - chosen because it's a dumbphone with Wi-Fi hotspot support. SIM is Kogan, so OneNZ for the network

Post 3G shutdown, it needed a bit of messing around with the firmware to work on VoLTE, but once working it's been fine.

I did get a weekly SMS from OneNZ suggesting I "upgrade to an approved phone", but calls/texts/data have been working fine otherwise. I never tested 111 specifically.

The last successfully placed call last night was at 21:30 yesterday evening.

This morning, it will not connect - I can get it to list available carriers (amusingly noting 2degrees: forbidden) but it will not connect to the Kogan MVNO APN at all.

If it's just me, I guess my phone has developed some sort of fault. But before I assume that, is anyone else using any overseas / not officially carrier approved phone on Kogan, OneNZ or any other OneNZ MVNOs affected by this?

Ok so immediately after posting this, the thought occurred to me to randomly move the SIM to slot 2 - it worked 🤷‍♂️ (edit: at least for now. Odd thing to happen tho)

Did you also try turning off/on initially?

Maybe a bad SIM contact? Could try back in slot 1 again.

Thanks for the suggestion - the contacts look clean on both sides but I gave them a bit of a scratch anyway to be sure. Still no go in slot 1.

I've since found others recently replied on an old r/KaiOS thread (that I OP'd when first trying to get VoLTE working) that Kogan Australia blocked one user (who switched to Optus), and someone else also had success moving theirs to SIM2.

Has me wondering if they're blocking specific IMEIs they've determined to be unsupported phones? Again I've not tried a 111 call this year, and I get the SMS below every single week so I do get the impression the presence of this phone on their network is annoying somebody...

Odd though that I seem alone in this!

Well that only worked for about an hour and a half. Now the SIM won't work in either slot or on any other phones. I'll reach out to their support tomorrow. Maybe a failing SIM?
