Is anyone here currently using this service? It seems like it would be ideal for me because Woosh's coverage in Wellington is still very limited, and I don't fancy the thought of having to pay $40 per month for a landline in order to get ADSL. I'm very interested to hear any feedback that anyone might have.

In particular, how painful is the installation process? Does the aerial just get mounted to the eves of the house and get wired into a jackpoint inside the house? I'm looking at moving into a new rental property in the near future, and I don't relish the prospect of having to negotiate with the landlord in order to authorise the installation.

They just use 802.11 (was only b not sure if they have g but since their speed is capped it's not really going to many any difference) so aerial choice is probably largey dependant on how close your are to their transmitters. They seem to have kept a relatively low profile considering that have a reasonably priced product and good coverage.

That was my feeling, too. Still, a lot of successful businesses depend on word of mouth. I'm in the eastern suburbs at the moment and coverage here seems to be a lower priority for them, but I imagine that's probably because Woosh has coverage in Miramar and Strathmore.

I'm currently flatting and I don't mind using cable or ADSL if I can share the costs with other flatmates but, if not, then I'd really like to be able to get Woosh or Gasp because the cost savings would be significant if I'm the only person using it.

Always good to find keen interest in our GASP service.

In answer to your questions:

Installation is much like a sky install and on the whole landlords/body corporates have had no problem with install.

Antenna, mount, up to 10m or high gain low loss coax, bridge (radio which acts like a modem) and then cat5 to your computer or router.

The antenna is usually a 19dBi grid, mounted on either facia or ridge. We try where possible to keep it out of sight from the street, but this is not always possible. Grid antenna are more descrete than sky dishes since they are not solid, therefore less obtrusive.

Alternatively if you are close to an access point we can use a panel antenna which is smaller and can in some instances be mounted internally, which suits appartments and student accomodation.

Install typically takes a couple of hours and is usually carried out by one of our experienced technicians, although self install is possible if you have the right crimping tools and some knowledge of wireless technology.

As for coverage in your area, we are constantly expanding our network, with multiple access points planned for the coming months. We have had some successfull surveys and installs in Seatoun utilising one of our Somes Island access points, additional coverage for this area is coming soon. A site has been secured to cover Miramar and Strathmore and the hardware has been ordered, so this is not far away from going live.
