Does anyone know for sure if you can use this with Telecom XT at all? And if so, the process required i.e. anything special that needs to be done? Cheers

Only if you are in an area with 2100mhz coverage - eg here in central rotorua it works fine on XT - BUT remember that 2100 coverage is not extensive and you are better to get an 850mhz device like the one netcomm one that telecom sells for 299
