raytaylor: Woosh had quite a big rural customer base around Invercargill from the days of project probe.
It has been pointed out to me that their urban towers cover something like a million people so they have the vertical assets there to build a successful 4g network and take on the 3 cellular companies if they wanted to sell to the lower socio economic class on prepay / mid to high cap plans using usb sticks.
They can undercut naked dsl - if they are using something like LTE and have the money to deploy it.
There are a few companies doing this overseas i've noticed, they provide dirt cheap wireless internet compared to the big telcos but with limited coverage, for data devices only. Some provide higher roaming rates outside of these areas, others seem to just make it those areas only.
I think this wouldn't be a bad move, but i've yet to see any innovation from this company as of late.
