We are very close to launching in New Zealand with our partner Expansys: http://www.expansys.co.nz/skyroam-hotspot-global-wifi-unlimited-data-273544/

Once we launch there, maybe sometime in March, let's talk about finding a way for you to demo a Skyroam Hotspot.

Unless you cant live without your NZ phone number while travelling I cant see why you would ever bother with roaming when its usually a lot cheaper just to buy a local prepay SIM. Or am I missing something?

It depends on a number of factors. I've found it's not really any cheaper, as a low-volume user, to buy a SIM in Australia. I don't make or receive many calls, and having the phone is more about being contactable. Roaming meets that requirement better than SIM swapping does (As mentioned previously, Skinny doesn't support call forwarding, nor did Vodafone on Prepay). It also means no shopping, and no registering SIMs, which is a pain in Aus.

I also need occasional Internet access while away, and the KnowRoaming/Skyroam offerings are actually quite competitive in that area. I will end up spending more of course, because I will have Internet access when previously I have got by using friend's connections or free wifi at shopping centres, but there is still a significant portion of the day when I don't have access, and it will help fill in those long mornings and evenings when I don't have access to my other toys.

Vodafone and Spark offer good options at $5/day (or around that) but it is still limited on what you can do and in which markets this is available (AU/USA/UK mostly).

Buying local SIM is not always an option. Sure it works fine if you're in Australia for longer than a week so it's cheaper than the $5/day roaming but... You need to present documents, etc. And sometimes they have limits (AT&T I am looking at you).

For instance my parents-in-law spent a few months in Europe and they had to buy SIM cards in almost every single country they visited - and that was a lot of SIM cards.

Yes, there's space for this kind of solution.

Is this available in Australia yet? I am off to Sydney for a couple of days and it would be good to try it if there's any there.

I think the 100MB cap limit per 24 hours is cheeky - 300-500MB sounds like a reasonable number.

128kbps is NOT usable.

Mauricio just get an Optus SIM - $2 per day for 500MB (with ability to have addons) - 6 month expiry

The FAQ says "You get unlimited data for each daypass." (a 24 hours period). It continues "After 100MB within a day, the speed is slowed to 128kbps.128kbps is fast enough to check email, surf the web, download files, update social media, and use many voice services. However, it is not fast enough to stream video."

Pretty good unless you think streaming video is a good thing to do while overseas... You don't do it on your normal roaming do you?
