I dont see a market for this either.

Just set up a reminder at work and on your mobile phone to top the emergency phone every 11 months.

Also - your emergency phone wont have recent contacts updated (who remembers phone numbers these days!) , so in the hours after an emergency you may just have calls and text, and any refresh of contacts data may be delayed.

A case could be made that the emergency phone should be non-smart to get a better battery life also.

Probably just a good idea to keep a USB Power bank in your kit.

Make sure it gets charged periodically (set a reminder in your calendar).

I guess wouldnt hurt to have some cables with it as well so people could charge any likely phone.

A couple of those power banks also come with an LED torch built in.

Can you not just setup an automatic topup (like with Skinny) for the minimum amount every 12 months? That way the SIM is kept active, and there will be something on it?

(Not sure if Skinny allow the time between topups to be more than a month?).

If that can't be done automatically, set a reminder in your calendar of choice to top up your SIM. will take a couple of minutes out of your day once a year.

For me, it is very rare for my phone not to be with me. I never leave it on my desk at work if I am stepping out - I pick up my phone, and do the pat check for car keys and wallet whenever I stand up to leave.

I was told that no sim calls wouldnt work in NZ, not sure on an expired sim that will not register on the network.
