That is a huge gotcha when this band was/is promoted as being able to reach further for the RBI service. Sounds like rural people getting screwed once again....

grab a vodafone sim and you will notice it..

 

 

 

I have not tested 2D.

 

Spark matches 850 very closely.

 

 

 

In rural areas where towers go for massive distance, it's kinda a requirement. You don't want a customer going i have signal but i can't make calls.

 

 

 

It's not unrealistic to want to cull or handover signal before it gets to the very edge.

Even with what they have done, its still better on LTE than HSPA in building many places. At the mall I can be on facebook happily scrolling away with 1 bar of LTE likeing cat pictures, it will drop back to H  with 1 or 2 bars and become unresponsive, sit like that for a bit and then move back to LTE and work again. Turns out it was someone trying to call me a few times and constantly failing.

I'm not sure that I agree with this statement.

 

Rural RBI subscribers are looking for good internet when other means of delivery don't exist. We put money into achieving this, including quite complex outside antenna installations in some cases. If the 3G signal is too weak for voice calls it doesn't matter - you can use VOIP if the internet is good enough, or failing that the old copper lines still work for most people. It is generally accepted that you are 'out of range' as far as mobile phones go.

Isn't that even more of a reason/business case to enable VoLTE so you could use L700 at its full potential - increasing the footprint without having to add any additional towers?

Think I’m late to the party on this one but discovered today that if you place a call that goes out using VoLTE (Vodafone in my case) to a mobile on another network (Spark in this case) that is also using VoLTE then the call is using HD Voice, unless HD Voice between our Telcos has been quietly enabled
