KiwiSurfer:

The tower is definitely Woosh. But the cabinet doesn't look Woosh at all. Is there any Woosh markings on it? How far away from the base of the monopole is it? Woosh usually had their BTS cabinet very close by often right at the base of the tower (unlike VF/Spark/etc who didn't seem to mind putting their cabinets further away).

Here are a couple of my pictures of Woosh sites. Not very many I'm afraid but you can see the similarities between your photo and the Woosh monopoles I've taken photos of. (Edit: There are 4 'pages' of photos, click the link at the bottom to go to next page etc).

Just for the record, that 100% opacity watermark on low res images makes it kind of hard to see much detail in them..

I believe they could be owned by venture southland or some group by a similar name which was in cahoots with woosh. Or a liquidator could be trying to sell them. I cant remember which.

I was approached a while ago and told the towers were for sale by whoever owned them but the cost of taking them down wasnt appealing.

It is definitely a woosh site if my brain serves me right they weren't allowed to install the cabinet in the centre of the road and they had to install a cabinet that wasn't overly ugly to the environment most of the other cell sites around Southland have been snapped up by 2 degrees the big pylon sites

Yeah its woosh, I remember them installing it and having to point our woosh aerial at that tower
I drive past the box regularly and noted that nothing was changing with it after being damaged, and wondered who was now responsible for them

That is definately a Woosh tower but I wouldn't be so sure it's their cabinet. There are Woosh towers abandoned everywhere.

It's nice being a 5 minute drive from anywhere :) Not a great place to fight boredom though.

Can anyone tell me the exact location of that site?  Also out of interest is the fence hard to climb over and do you know if any security guards patrol at all?  How visable is the site from the road and/or surrounding bushes?  Would a man dressed in a large pink chicken costume appear out of place at the site?

Thanks.

DjShadow:

Would the likes of Spark, Voda, 2D or even a WISP be interested in buying it?

An opportunity for someone to throw a dipole on it and rebroadcast The Cheese in Invercargill on FM ;-)

That site isn't too shabby that covers the more wealthy end of town :) A dipole would be too ugly on that pole though.

The first thing that crossed my mind was how to make a 107.3 j-pole more aesthetically pleasing instead of those sectors. That microwave antenna is almost in-line with where I live in the next suburb.

I'm down in a dip near Bay Road so 107.3 doesn't go far.

Although your FLAC feed does sound quite nice through a 7-band processor :)
