There is no surprise that the plans aren't any great "1000 minutes and 1000 TXTS and a free island holiday for only $2 per month" deals. For me the cost for what I currently pay for monthly (phone + data + hosted exchange) is less and the perks of the beta make the savings even greater, so once I have a few questions regarding the Hosted Exchange answered I'm going to give them a crack.

It would be nice to see a "better deal" in time but until Vodafone / Telecom do battle and axe prices, no-one else can. I live in hope (and indications are great so far) that there will be advantages offered in other ways (customer service, value adds, etc)

The plans aren't toooooo bad.

Problem is that being a telecom user, i need to buy a GSM phone. I currently run an HTC Titan and i'd be looking for a phone with the same PDA functionality which means ill have to fork out around $600 for a new phone. Hmmmm not really prepared to do that.

As far as the plans go, with the combination of base plan and data, it works out about the same.

does the beta tester promo apply every month or is it just the first month?

I think the bottom plan is about $15 too much.

The beta kick backs apply for as long as the beta runs - we don't know how long that is, hopefully ages :-)

Just recieved the e-mail with the plan options. Cheapest is $60. Disappointed. Going to stay with VF.

I haven't seen the plans, but I'm sure they'll have cheaper/different plans at launch.  This is a beta test after all, maybe they are using the pricing to filter the participants?  What is the value like compared to VF?

I thought long and hard and decided i cant afford the initial outlay to join. I forked out $600.00 for an HTC Titan a few months back and this phone for me is my bread and butter communication while out and about for work etc.

In order to retain the same functionality id need to purchase a phone around $600.00 just to join. Im not really a fan of the phones available for sale also. With the probability of just one month of the beta kickback. It wasnt going to be an economical switch and i wasnt keen to sell my Titan so soon.

Good luck to Black and White though!

I am switching to the lowest plan they offer, the pricing is not bad, and it will see me thru till at least when telecom get up and running and I can reassess things. Sure beats buying another $129 cdma phone to port to. Sadly I didnt have enough on the card to join, so left the process half way, and then my vodafone was due for its 12 months since last top up on the weekend so I had to top it up rather then join B&W, so wont be porting till I have used up the $20 on it.

It's not really a very exciting email, nor are the plans.
No one is lying when they say it.

It may have something to do with it still being in beta at the moment, with their customer base being so small and with (probably) new staff to the job they will all be enthusiastic.
That could start to fade once a it leaves beta and a larger customer base forms?
