I agree but the admin burden for banks etc dealing with customers who have never used an authenticator app before.  Oooff!

 

 

And some of these customers may not even have a smartphone or similar.

For those interested, the GSMA API's are generally based off the CAMARA standard.

There are some others we are all looking at like TS.43 Silent Authentication etc.
