I came here to ask a related question, saw this thread and thought it’s close enough to my question. 

 

I’m thinking of adding an all in one CarPlay unit to my motorcycle. It simplifies the faffing about connecting things and at the same time gives me the functionality to use most of my phone apps for music, books, navigation etc etc. 

 

 

 

One of the units I’m looking into uses an LTE card to provide some additional functionality (you can, for example, fit the bike with cameras connected to the unit and then get the feed remotely on your phone). The unit is made by a company called Chigee (They must have been drunk when they named the company!) and they supply it with a card which doesn’t work in NZ (mainly it works in Europe). 

 

There’s no need for a normal ‘phone number’ sim such as you would have in a phone. I’ve got no idea where to go to get the sort of sim that is needed: everything I found seemed to be designed for companies who want 100 such sims which they can monitor centrally etc. and nothing seemed to relate to a single individual with small private use requirements. 

 

Anyone know the best solution?

 

If you have access to an android phone to write the profile, I still think the esim adapter option is worth a shot for this type of use.

For a larger amount of data than previously suggested, the cost per GB can be as low as $0.72c to $1.54 with 6 month / 1 year validity (take a look at eSIMDB).

The best search terms to find them on AliExpress are physical esim, open source esim or 9esim.
