Now featuring nearly free hotspots, such as free with coffee or 15mins free. Currently 91 free hotspots and 42 nearly free.

I emailed you to mention Waipu.
they have the whole street with Free 15 minutes available every 24hours from your mac address. No codes required. Just a turn off the main road.
They do also offer paid services but mainly free is used and appreciated by many customers already.

It is already added. Click 'Northland' then 'Show Nearly Free Hotspots'. Not all markers can be displayed on the zoomed out map of NZ currently. A fix is in the works for this. But all markers will show up when zoomed in.

Pretty sure every single Telecom store has free wifi.

also, The Neighbourhood bar in Kingsland (on New north road) has free wifi.

Auckland airport has them too.

No, the Telecom Store offer the old Telecom Hotspot Service, which is now a paid service.

The WiFi at the Auckland Airport is only available in the international terminal and it is not free for general internet access. I believe the free access is limited to airport related information.

I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long.

Whoops. sorry guys. I was connecting via my phone (in both cases - auckland airport* and Telecom store), so maybe when I thought it was connected via wifi in both these cases, I was actually just dropping back to the 3G connection without me realising.

Well, the Neighbourhood wifi is definitely free. The wifi connection is even called 'Neighbourhood free wifi' or something like that. :D

(A pub with free wifi, how tempting is that for a day 'at work'?? :P )

*I was in the domestic terminal, and the signal was pretty strong there.

International terminal

Jean Batten international terminal, landside (passenger and visitor access areas)

Cafe Down Under area, landside (passenger and visitor access areas)

Café Espresso area - after passport control (passenger only access)

Domestic terminal

Air New Zealand, airside Gate 30 (passenger only area)

Qantas, landside (passenger and visitor access areas)

The public shopping and food court area, ground floor (passenger and visitor access areas).

Wellington Airport offers free wi-fi in the main area. All you have to suply is an email address.

Yes I realise that, I was correcting phlegmboy who said

It's a shame really that more places don't have free wifi. It's surely not something that would be a great cost to a business as long as they monitor data usage (or get Big Time or equivalent if that is avaialable to buisnesses)

I remember travelling through Malaysia even many of the grubbiest little eateries had free wifi access.

That;s a discussion for another thread though I guess.

All of the Wireless APN libaray's hotspots are all ready on the Free Wifi Map.

The phase 3 roll out is not completely finished, so not all the hotspots will be active, I would suggest to add them at the end of October. The roll out is ment to be during the July-October region.

I hear that the far north libraries have been installed so will add them soon. Do you have to buy anything for the neighbourhood bar wifi or can you just sit outside and use it. What do the proprietors think? I don't want to add any that are just leeching of an open AP without the owners knowledge.

I didn’t ask them, but I didn’t need to get a password or anything from the bar. I did happen to be drinking there at the time, but I could just as easily have been standing on the street outside.

I was only on there for a few minutes, so it’s possible they ask for a code after 15 mins or something, which you need to get from the bar.

It was called "Neighbourhood free wifi hotspot" through so I doubt it is leeching.

It appears that the website mentioned at the head of this thread is no longer operational (well, I get a blank page when I visit it). That's a shame as I think it would be a useful resource.

Does anyone know of any other resource which lists all public wifi hotspots (both free and paid for)?
