Would the likes of Spark, Voda, 2D or even a WISP be interested in buying it?

An opportunity for someone to throw a dipole on it and rebroadcast The Cheese in Invercargill on FM ;-)

That site isn't too shabby that covers the more wealthy end of town :) A dipole would be too ugly on that pole though.

The first thing that crossed my mind was how to make a 107.3 j-pole more aesthetically pleasing instead of those sectors. That microwave antenna is almost in-line with where I live in the next suburb.

I'm down in a dip near Bay Road so 107.3 doesn't go far.

Ahh so your near all the 3 cell sites in prestonville, Do you get good coverage? I live in hargest and the closest spark tower is at the racecourse and most of the time around the house i get 1 bar and often no service at all. I've tryed 2d since their tower is closer but marginally better :)

Although your FLAC feed does sound quite nice through a 7-band processor :)

No doubt sounds better than my compellor and dominator :)

All three networks have the same issue all the way from racecourse all through towards Windsor.

nakedmolerat: I'm just surprised to learn that a few geekzoners are from Invercargill!

It's nice being a 5 minute drive from anywhere :) Not a great place to fight boredom though.

Gotta be better than Greymouth (where I'm from). At least there's things to do in Invercargill.

Yes that site isn't far away.

The Spark signal at my place is 3 of 4 bars from it, but I have a few transmitters sitting around here, so it'd probably be 4 bars if they were all off.

Can anyone tell me the exact location of that site?  Also out of interest is the fence hard to climb over and do you know if any security guards patrol at all?  How visable is the site from the road and/or surrounding bushes?  Would a man dressed in a large pink chicken costume appear out of place at the site?

Thanks.

lol maybe up the pole, it would look a little out of place. A few feet away is a very large public park though. However, foot traffic involves a lot of students at Boys High School, in saying that, they'd be happy to dye a chicken pink.

The fence beside the cabinet is the high school rectors office. That just sounds not very inviting!

all 3 providers are reasonably dense around that site..

if anything i'd expect spark or 2d would take up the site for an infill tower.. I've got no insider details on it, but i'd suspect there is alot more cost in taking over that tower than is worthwhile.

Enquire with the council if it still has consent (or easement...pardon my attempt at legal speak), to be located where it is or did that consent get revoked when it was 'abandoned'.

You could cry the visual pollution of an 'no longer consented tower'.

Stick a fat antenna up with a 5G label on it and pole will be gone by lunchtime :)

I wouldn't imagine any of them would want to put a tower there. All 3 providers have their own towers not far from there at all. Maybe would have been a good location prior to them building the towers a couple years back

I used to live in Waihopai street, and just being slightly down the hill and all the trees in that street was enough to know a good chunk of all providers signal out inside the house. Put your phone in the wrong spot on the couch and no signal. But go up to Layard and no issues at all. Also lived in Lamond St East across from Hargest (the school) and had no issues there. The joys of cell signal haha

There were a lot of complaints when Spark put their one up behind the video store in Windsor a few years back
