I'm not sure why you want really fast speeds on a RBI service. I know that xDSL and UFB have unlimited at not much more cost than 80GB but over 4G I doubt there is much intent to offer unlimited soon. I can see you burn monthly allowances quite quickly even at 20 Mbps which should be plenty for typical use.

I too agree that it's pointless having extra speed on RBI beyond say 20Mbps or so. It just means that you burn through your data cap even faster. This month we have exceeded our 80GB cap by a GB or two and that's on a 3G service which uses 50 or 60MB per speedtest. I did some tests on 4G and those same speedtests were using 130MB or so. There's no doubt that the more bandwidth you have, the more data you'll burn through, so once your connection speed exceeds a couple of HD streams, plus a bit left over for VoIP, Skype etc, it's of minimal benefit.

i agree with grant
i was in 4G area for a few days recently and doing all my normal 3G stuff the 4G just sucked all my data
i have now restricted my phone to 3G
i can see no advantage in super fast speed without super large data caps

Because im not aiming for fast download speeds... im actually aiming for lower latency which with carrier aggregation or just 4g in general is a big difference especially when RBI is the only option

impossible you must of used more data, If data is delivered over the 3G network or 4G network it does not change its still just data

exactly what i was thinking, im surviving on 5gig a month from my Samsung s6 edge mobile hotspot playing games online and facebook, of course i don't watch videos or anything but the difference between 3g and 4g data usage is nothing if you use your data the same as you always have unless you open a 50minute video and only watch 5minutes of it then close it, then the 4g usage would have downloaded a bigger portion of the 50minute vid then 3g but then thats your fault for not using your data wisely.

yes i think it must have been the video thing
i am really not used to 4G and with 3G when a site starts to load video automatically, like news sites, with 3G you have a chance to stop them.
but with 4G they load instantly

i am rural and used to about 7 to 8 mbs and have learned to manage that speed
maybe if i lived in town with 30mbs i would learn to manage that speed too

CA is carrier aggregation and it's effectively the same as using 2 hoses to full a pool instead of one

Takes 2 frequencies and uses them to deliver mobile broadband in the downlink direction

If you are managing 8 Mbps to fit inside your monthly cap there probably isn't much difference if there was 30 Mbps.

Web pages might use a bit more MB on average if you are quickly moving between sites as less likely to fully load - I was surprised to see how much data graphic rich sites like Tumblr use on one extending page, easily 20-30MB in no time so the higher speed connection can soak up more (sorry johnr, I don't agree it is all in the mind but the difference may be small).

The key point is if your type of use doesn't change then higher speeds won't make a big difference. However, if say you have lots of users in the house and some give up as their video is buffering, then faster speeds could open floodgates and usage could rise a lot. At least RBI now has those 80GB plans. For us it was Lightbox and Netflix with teenagers that make a huge difference to monthly use.

After reading all the posts I think I probably was doing more with out realising it.
With a slow connection in a 10 min space some of the time will be waiting to load
With a fast connection you can flip from site to site quickly and alot more can down load in 10 mins without you really being aware of it

hey john just a quick question, does vodafone RBI still use the old direct line of sight antennas?

Very excited. Our Spark Rural modem arrives tomorrow. For us it has to be better that what we have now, speeds of less than 1mps!

They never have been line of sight antennas. Directional yes.
