When I switched over to FreePBX from off-the-shelf 2Talk, I thought that I had activated the FreePBX voicemail, but it seems not to be the case. I am able to dial *98 to access the FreePBX voicemail service and change my outgoing message etc, but when I phone my own number and get my voicemail, it is the 2Talk voicemail that I get. But then I cannot dial the *55 to access 2Talk's voicemail, I have to call the access number in Dunedin. Anyone able to help?

How are you doing incoming calls? Ring group? Or straight to an extension?

In either case you need to make sure a timeout is set in FreePBX to go to the mailbox. If you are using a ring group you need to set the failover destination and timeout. Extension automatically are set to go to voicemail if it is enabled.

Also go to 2talk and turn off voicemail diversion. It is a checkbox that says 'Turn off your Voicemail call diversions'.

You cant dial *55 in freepbx because it thinks it is an internal feature code, obviously it isnt though.

You'll need to disable the *55 feature code in FreePBX if you want to dial it from Asterisk.

Depends what you use as the dial plan. If you've only got a single trunk there is no real reason to use anything other than a generic catch all such as X. anyway.

Thanks for all your responses. My incoming calls are going to a ring group that comprises my 'office' extensions and my mobile phone (in case I'm out of the house). And I should have realised that setting the 2Talk Voicemail wait time longer would have forced my system to use the FreePBX voicemail instead. Thanks for pointing that out!

What are you trying to use, your Asterisk VM or 2talk VM? It would seem rather pointless using the 2talk V, plus you're going to need to play with a few settings if you want MWI notifications of 2talk VM on your extensions off the Asterisk box.
