Just looking for some suggestions:
We are in the midst of a phone system replacement project at work.
The existing system is Avaya ( at least 5 years of service) and is being changed to a hosted\cloud Cisco offering.
My concern relates to the plan of dumping handsets and\or other gear once the new system is live.
I dont like the idea of this stuff being dumped in a landfill if it could be used somewhere by someone or re purposed...
I know that often this is a hard thing to achieve as you need to wipe configurations, arrange for storage of kit, transport somewhere, and that Avaya requires licensing for features among other things. The other aspect is that people often dont want something that is old or unsupported (the handsets are EOL AFAIK)
Most handsets are Avaya 1608's which apparently can be used with Asterisk and possibly other VOIP\PBX platforms.
Part of me hopes that an organisation or persons could use some or all of the kit to have a workable phone system. Then again, maybe melting it down and turning it into fence posts or artwork is acceptable.....
Any feedback or ideas appreciated.
