Thanks to all for your help and Tony's great Trixbox 2 setup document, I now have a working Trixbox installation on a dedicated box. The installation appears to work great including the VFX link via an x100p and the WAG54GP2 router with its inbuilt FXS ports.

One question I have is this - with my old Panasonic PABX, I had the comfort of being able to dial 9 for an outside line, then to get a dial tone from the POTS exchange before dialling the number I wanted. Is it possible to duplicate that functionality with Trixbox?  I guess that would make Outbound Routes difficult to implement, but perhaps there's a way that a dial string of say "9" could connect to the ZAP/G0 trunk (ie VFX) and then just pass anything dialed into that connection.

Can this be done?

Cheers Mike

From memory, (Someone might need to correct me on this...) You need to create a new outbound route under the trunk Zap/G0 with '9|.' in the dial pattern box (Without the quotation symbols of course). This tells asterisk to  look for a number beginning with 9 before dialing a number on that trunk, while not passing through that number (in this case, 9) to the POTS line.

Thanks Munchkin

Yes, I have an outward route that looks like that i.e. 9|. which connects to the Zap/g0 trunk and onwards to VFX.  I also found last night, a delay in the IP phone, which causes it to wait for 5 seconds before sending the dial string. So, reducing that may also help because I do hear the VFX dial tone for a brief period as Asterisk is selecting that trunk and before it sends the remainder of the dial string to VFX.

So perhaps its just a case of dial 9 and wait for the VFX dial tone (to confirm its there), then dial the remainder of the digits. It would then mimic the behaviour of the old Panasonic PABX.  I will pursue that this evening and try again. Thanks for the feedback.

Cheers Mike
