Is there anyone here who can help me out with Vodafone voip services? Specifically in regards to setting up a different router than the HG659 supplied...

1. Sip username/password?
2. Sip register server/proxy server/domain
3. Sip port
4. Can I use a 3rd party router with Vodafone sip service, it appears that they only allow one device to be registered at a time. Bit of a hassle to do it this way when a router dies.

Only being able to connect 1 SIP device at a time is the norm in the SIP world. There are only a handful of SIP stacks that allow simultaneous registrations with the same user credentials.

I only want to use one device at a time....even if I didn't I have to call up to register my ATA. My problem is that these HG659's are crap (I have 2). They cause me all sorts of trouble in my current network configuration. Im going to try and eliminate them from the system using an Asus router and Cisco ATA.

Why bother having a username and password if sip connection is locked to the device ID? Can they remove this limitation and make it ip/username/password only? The VF HG659 firmware is updated with that data using CWMP when a connection is established with the sip server. I have a telecom HG659 which obviously won't do the same. And to set that up i require the sip details, which appear to be irrelevant without the device being registered on their end. 

From a home business perspective, if the HG659 dies. Your screwed while you wait on the phone with VF to register a new device.

Why does this not just work like a normal SIP provider where it will register the new device when a connection is made!?!?!? And allow more than one dam device at a time. Seriously considering 2talk...

Are you buying a phone service which happens to be delivered over SIP, or are you buying a SIP service? There's a difference between the two.

I explained why you can't register 2 devices at once. This is the norm in the SIP world.

Vodafone's product is a fully managed end to end voice solution. If you don't like that then move providers.

Sorry, I dont understand that question properly. However, being that I'm with Vodafone I would presume I am buying a phone service delivered over SIP?

Vodafone offer a SIP trunking service that lets you use your own hardware, or they offer a fully managed end to end service delivered to their own RGW.

I don't like that, and I may just move providers. It doesn't seem to be common amongst the different sip providers? Even the ones that do only allow a single device at a time appear to update the device registered at logon?

Hmm well I guess the trunking service is built around a wholesale/business model.

You seem to know a fair bit more about how this all works than me... My plan is to use a Asus RT-N66U with a Cisco SPA112 ATA. Do you happen to know if it is the ATA that will need to be registered with Vodafone or the router?

An ATA has to register against the Vodafone SIP proxy. There is no way top register it against a router. Vodafone also don't have out SIP details so you'll have no easy way of getting these.
