Hello members
I just went on 2talkgo free a few days ago to test a mowe over to voip. The initial setup went fairly well and the line wasn't that good, though ok for a start.This all with their softohone. A day later I could not do any calls at all and onle get the:"Your call can not be completed as dialled, please check the number and dial again". Itried a few things with entering the numbers to no avail. This with a setup without any adaptors or voip router and with the softphone.
So I tryed various times to get assistance but sadly it is not very forthcoming.
Has anyone of you had experience with 2talk?
I am very keen to hear any comments as I'm seriously thinking of switching to voip. Any other options worth persuing?

I have a 2talk account that I use when I travel and have no problems. Remember to always dial the area code!

Another option is VFX from WorldxChange - you can even port your current landline number to their service.

Yes I got the message to dial the area code.
The comments on this website and others over WFX are not that positive so there are not many others to choose from. I was keen on their "product" and got put off by reading all the comments.
Snap seems to get good ratings for their comitment but do not have voip.

You don't have to use VoIP from your ISP.. I'm using Snap, and VoIP from slingshot (iTalk).

I will check that out.
Just had a call from a neighbour over skype and the sound was much better then what I had over 2talk go free.

FYI 2talk can also port numbers.

Feature wise 2talk is great can do alot of stuff compared to Xnet and iTalk so try to get it sorted, personally i wouldnt go back to XNET or Slingshot after using 2talk

Does your softphone show you have a credit balance? maybe you used all the free minutes on the free plan?

FYI for the quality, try moving the PCMA codecs highest in the list in the softphone and see if that improves the quality

theres also a setting on the 2talk webpage to only allow high quality codecs to be used.

One of my favourite features on 2talk, is having multiple devices using the same number, by turning on One Number, you can use 6 devices on the same number, so i have softphones for pc laptop, 2x ATAs, iPhone, if someone calls the number, they all ring.

That is quality advice, thanks a lot.
I will try that and see how I get on. If possible I would like to use 2talk as I do a reasonable amount of email to fax and the other way round.
Is a line like inserted below good enough? At the moment still 128 up speed.

if nothing else is happening on your connection, then 128k is technically enough for 1-2 "excellent" quality codec calls however i do find most of my customers prefer the full speed upload when using SIP to make it more reliable quality wise

your ping is quite high to that speed test server in CHCH, mine was 43ms from Auckland to CHCH, the lower latency you have, the better the call quality will be

Enable the best quality codecs, on the 2talk control panel and the softphone, make some test calls, see what they say about it

I usually find the other end doesnt realise im making the call one of my my 2talk devices, which is good.

Just be aware with 128kbps upstream any VoIP product is going to cause you issues if you have any internet activity in the background and try and make a call at the same time if you have no QoS on your router.

I would certainly recommend you only attempt to sue G729 or GSM as your voice codec. G711 uses 87kbps in each direction for a call so will easily max out your upstream and doesn't like any jitter or dropped packets which will cause very obvious dropouts.

I will change my BB plan first to full up and down, whatever that might be for my area.
For now I will change the settings and try again when someone else is around who does not mind to do test calls with me.

Like you Dan, I've used other VOIP providers (in my case in Australia) and I am delighted with my 2Talk service and am extremely happy with their business plan, I too have "One Number" switched on, so that I can answer calls from any of my VOIP phones.

I also found 2Talk Tech Support tried very hard to assist me with a problem I was having with Vodafone mobile users being unable to call me, thanks to a forum member that works for Vodafone, that issue was fixed from the Vodafone end.

I've included my speedtest for comparison purposes.

thanks, it sounds very promising. I hope the speed of yours will be achieved, touch wood.

One thing that anoys me right now is the unreliability. Most likely on my part of the setup.
This voice:"Your call can not be completed as dialled, please check the number and dial again" is getting on my nerves a bit. Interestingly it worked this avo and now back to the old unfortunate message.
Has anyone a clue why?
