Looking into getting a voip #.

On the 2Talk website, they talk about their 028 numbers being charged "like a normal mobile call" for incoming calls.

If I port an existing landline #, do callers get charged as per a normal call or as per a mobile call ?

Thanks

More people will look at your post if you change the thread title to something relevant... e.g. "What will callers be charged when calling my ported landline # on 2talk?".

Your question is legitimate, but many people wont bother even looking past "Total Noob Question".

Have yourself a merry Saturday afternoon.

They will pay whatever they pay now for calls to that number. Only the 028 numbers are charged at mobile rates. Eg. If someone is calling within the same LCA, it will be charged as a local call (Free for residential).

I've been using 2talk with 2x local numbers for about a year now, and only have positive things to say about the service. Go for it!

Thanks for that.

How do you find the voice quality overall ??

Do callers get the "bad line" echo / static / lag etc, or are they none the wiser they have been voiped ??

Thanks

If you have a good connection with good hardware and correct setup VoIP is identical or better than a regular PSTN line.

Yup agree with sbiddle. I have good hardware, and QoS on my LAN and call quality is better than my Telecom landline. I use Alaw as a codec which is an ISDN codec.

I find that no matter what QOS I do on the router, I still get some dropouts when initiating dozerns of tcp connections - it settles down once the connections are running tho, so its ok when torrenting and its all going smoothly, but with slingshots recent games of making connections die after a short time and utorrent is constantly connecting to heaps of peers it makes voip suffer a bit. Same for browsing - every page load and there is a little loss on the phone.

I'm using a USB Headset tied to a PC on TNZ's voip network. I run X-Lite on a laptop and its perfect. In some cases (especially when calling overseas, which is a large part of my business) X-Lite on VOIP is far better than a landline.
