Trying to pressgang a Cisco ATA-188 into talking to Italk here, but the configuration is a bear, ditto the documentation. Got as far as entering the basic IP information, but scratching my head over how to do SIP and phone stuff. Anyone deciphered what goes where in the cryptic web-based menu?

Cheers. First thing I discovered was that the box was set up for MGSP... so had to get a SIP image instead. Doh.

Should all be right now, but no dial tone, and I can't see the ATA trying to connect to the Italk SIP server... gah.

Not sure if you want to try a full factory reset at all first

Plug a phone into line 1 and Dial: 322873738# then dial * and hang up.

The unit defaults to DHCP so then dialling 21 # from the phone will tell you your IP

Now go to the web page by entering http://ip address>/dev

The following settings are possibly the only ones of interest

UID0 and UID1 are the settings for your SIP userid for the 2 lines

PWD0 and PWD1 are the settings for your SIP password for the 2 lines

GkOrProxy is the IP or URL of your SIP proxy server

SIPRegOn determines whether the device should enable SIP so set to 1.

UDPTOS sets IP presedence (if this is important to you on your network)

RXCodec & TXCodec sets your voice codec. Possible options are 1=G.711A, 2=G.711u, 3=G.729 but to use g.729 you must set LBRCodec to 3 as well.

DHCP sets DHCP on of off (1=on 0 =off)

Static IP/Static Route/Static Netmask = Fairly obvious settings if you want a static IP rather than DHCP

SIPPort = SIP port (normally always 5060)

RTPPort = Port for RTP traffic (the voice channel used during a call)

At a guess the following settings should be all you need to get it going with iTalk

UID0=64xxxxxxxx   (your iTalk user ID ie 6491234567)
PWD0=<your password>
GkOrProxy=xxx.italk.co.nz (set for region, ie akl.italk.co.nz, wlg.italk.co.nz)
SIPRegOn=1
RxCodec=2    sets to G.711u which is ~92kbps each way so good for fast connections, may be crap over ADSL
Txcodec=2     sets to G.711u which is ~92kbps each way so good for fast connections, may be crap over ADSL
SIPPort=5060
SipRegInterval=3600
RTPPort= something around 16000 range is normal. May need port forwarding of SIPPort and RTPPort in router remember VoIP is UDP and not TCP.

Then just set the DHCP and IP settings if you want/don't want HDCP.

To use G.729 you will need to set RxCodec=3, TxCodec=2 and LBRCodec=3

Let me know how your get on, I suspect the above settings should be all you need after a factory reset. Try without a factory reset first but if you're acquired the unit from somebody else rather than new there could be other settings that have been changed.

Thanks, that is what I have currently - the exception is that I can't see "rtpport", only MediaPort in my firmware version.

Using a static IP address, no DHCP, no tftp.... Italk's only got cfg files for the Budge Tone AFAIK. No dialtone, however. I know there are people using the ATA188 on Italk, so it should work.

MediaPort appears to be the same thing. Have you tried forwarding the SIP and MediaPort ports to your router? Have you tried your phone in both ports? Have you correctly set the DNS server? Have you got UseLoginID=0? There is also an option for UseSip maybe this needs to =1 and you could also maybe try the proxy then :5060 at the end, ie akl.italk.co.nz:5060

Other than that I don't really have any ideas. If you can't get it to go I'd be keen to have a play and try and try to get it going if you wanted to send it down..

Yeah, it Should Just Work - the Budge Tone phone works fine on the same network. I can actually ping the phone from the Internet.

Tried two phones, in the two different ports; also tried swapping the LAN connection ports, just in case. DNS is set up correctly, and looking at the firewall, I can see that the phone connects to akl.italk.co.nz on port 5060 and passes traffic. Hmm, half working...

I think u should get a linksys prdouct (spa1001) , It is much easy to set-up for any SIP. Price also cheaper.
