Hi

I've set up a Netcomm V300 to work with iTalk. and I can make calls fine, but when someone calls me the phone rings and can be connected, but there is no sound either direction. :(

Also *55 does not call voicemail.

Anyone have any suggestions how to fix this?

I'm using a Telstra cable modem for the connection.

Softphone works fine, although not when the V300 is connected, but possibly because both are trying to log in simultaneously?

Is it likely that the V300 could be faulty, or is it more likly a problem with the config, iTalk, or captability with cable modem? The place I got it from said that I couldn't return it if I had trouble setting it up. They also charge you if you return something as being faulty and they test it to find that it works fine, so some advice would be great!

Thanks!

Are you using the V300 as your primary router or just as a phone adapter behind a router?

I'm using the V300 as the primary router, it is directly plugged into my cable modem which is not a router.

I've tried enabling and disabling the QOS, and have experimented with just about every other combination of settings. :(

No audio is a very common problem if you're trying to use a VoIP device behind a NAT firewall. This obviously isn't the case with you since you're using it as your router. I haven't personally played with a Netcomm V300 but will try and sort out some suggested settings for you later on.

I took the router to try on my friend's ADSL modem connected to Slingshot, and the problem was still there, so I've eliminated the Telstra cable modem as being the cause of the problem.

Tomorrow I'll see if I can exchange it for another one they have in stock, or see about getting a credit to buy something else (they won't give a refund for software or hardware incompatibilty issues). Another thing in the fine print is that if I take it back as a warranty claim and they test it to find it works OK, then I get charged $30+gst. :(

I saw someone else posted a while back using a Netcomm V300 with iTalk asking for settings. He returned with thanks saying it works fine. So that probably eliminates iTalk as the cause of the problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Update:

I've now narrowed down the problem to having to do with the iTalk sip-network and the V300, well at least for CHC numbers.

Last night I signed up for a free US sipphone number and called that through and access number and I was able to receive the call through the V300 without any problems. This was using the same sip and router settings as I was using with iTalk.

I've worked out how to call the voicemail. Have to dial: *55#

So in the meanwhile, I'll probably set my mail message to say "hang up and I'll call you back, leave your name and number if your phone number is withheld, or your at an extension, don't try ringing later as I can't answer any calls! Ever!" Then I'll call them back using caller ID.

Hopefully iTalk may be able to fix the problem somehow... and if not, then I'll be looking at switching to an alternative service when they come to town.

One thing that could be handy to know though is how do I set up the softphone and the ATA to work simultaneouly, as it would be good to answer calls via softphone when I have the computer on. I'm assuming the router is reserving the ports for use with its built in VoIP, and perhaps you can't have to devices registered simultenously with the same number.

Suggestions welcome

Thanks!
