pollock: My Next and last question Hopefully :)

With Italk is there anyway I can get my Hard phone and Soft phone (Acrobits on the Iphone) to ring at the same time (Some how give them different extensions and get both extensions to ring?)

Possibly if you use something like SipSorcery.  They have free hosted solution which you can use for a single number, IIRC.

They don't offer free accounts anymore, any other places that work similar?

2talk can do this out of the box.

Also, if you are looking to make a number of calls to SA, maybe see if there is a well priced provider in SA who you can buy a SIP trunk off. Might even get you an inbound SA number you can use to receive calls.

Yea. I have a second voip phone. Using telfree.com. There rates are not bad, but I never use it for making calls. I use my italk free minutes for that.

Telfree is free to receive calls and there is not even a montly subscription. And my family/friends call me on this 087 number from their mobiles using their free minutes. Rings here in my house in NZ. Very handy. And does not cost them international rates.

I have been using this for about 2 years now. Works well. But a while ago they started blocking connections from out of SA. Not sure if this is still the case, but I got hold of them and they whitelisted my number for outside SA connections. You may have to do that.

Let me know if you need more info

You could install 3CX on a windows machine. Just runs in the background and is a full featured PABX. The free edition allows up to two lines. So rather than using your desk phone to hook in to Italk you peer it with the 3CX. Then change your desk phone and soft phone to extensions.

How did you get on setting that SPA303 up?

Mine got delivered this morning.  Took about 30 minutes to sort out enough config to decide that I think this product is very cool.

It seems to interact with 2Talk really well.

I also like that fact I can plug my $60 Uniden headset directly into it from my cordless.  Headsets can be really expensive, so I think that was sweet.

pollock: I Emailed 2Talk last night and no answer yet,

Is S.Africa part of the 250 free mins?

Expect to wait a week to 10 days if they are in a hurry to respond to you :)

haha . . . .love the horror stories you hear sometimes.
The longest I have had to wait in the two or three times I have contacted 2talk support is less than 48 hours.

Hi,

I've been bit busy on other projects, but I got most of the basics sorted.   There's a few concepts in there that are new to me, I don't follow the functionality of the lines.  It's not clear to me if I can 'monitor' a line on the phone and effectively be sharing it with another phone.

I rang Cisco to ask about what it does but only got 'it depends on your provider..."...  not much help.

I got two of them, so I'll just set up a second one and have a play.

I managed to crash/lock it up a couple of times.  I think it's happening because I'm on the 2Talk/30 plan that only supports 2 concurrent calls.

On the plus side, the function keys to be able to transfer calls is very cool.  No need to be stuffing about with key codes etc.  Just press the button, dial the new number, supervise the call and away you go.

I suspect the thing will be more functional behind a pabx, so I'm working on that currently.

I made a post ages ago about extension numbers in the dial plan.  At the time I didn't have enough hardware to test the features, but I've got enough kit now that I can do some real testing, so I'm going to set up 2Talks exten numbers and have a real play.

How are you going with your testing?
