Yeah one of the reasons I don't want to get the VoIP account and do it through the POTS line is that i know of a few other people who want to do something similar, and who just wont entertain the idea of changing phones lines over to voip etc.
I've also been looking at the likes of the rasberrypi + asterisk setup. Am i correct in thinking when coupled with a FXO adapter might work as a solution? (obviously when configured correctly, im under no illusion that Asterisk can require a fairly in-depth setup) My concern is that when the call comes in it would be routed to Asterisk and the existing analog phones in the house wouldn't ring.
The ATCOM IP01 PBX looks interesting, although as mentioned the Fritz!box has all this + modem/router functionality. (Not overly concerned with the price of the Fritz!box, it's within what I'm happy to spend)

If you want to use Asterisk you'll also need an FXS adapter to allow other phones to ring. The higher spec ATCOM devices can have a combination of FXO and FXS devices fitted.
No offence to you, but you clearly don't understand VoIP, so any attempt to deploy an Asterisk setup is going to be a big learning curve. The simplest solution is the Fritz!box.
Migrating across to a VoIP only solution is very simple and in the perfect world is the best solution, but you're obviously not sold on this as a solution.
None taken :) My background is web/software development/hosting. This is an area I've been interested (had a curiosity) in for a while but had little time to get into or have a better understand of.
I am quite keen to setup asterisk on the server at home to have a play with. (I've used it before at previous employment along with voip lines, and been exposed to trixbox but more so from the users perspective.)
Yeah that Uniden unit is exactly what got me thinking about this in the first place. The only issue I have with is, is that it runs over Bluetooth, I wanted to see if there was a similar solution for WiFi.
fellaintga: Using VDSL and Fritzbox with 2talk is my setup which would be what I would recommend as others have suggested. But if you only want to use your iphone to answer calls then this would work.
Does this go both ways? Seems to go on about answering your mobile line on this handset, but I'm not seeing the part where it says you can answer your landline on the mobile...
