sonyxperiageek: Tango's not bad - I would only use it for smartphone to smartphone and maybe the occasional PC client. AFAIK last time I heard there was no iPad adaption of Tango, so you get the iPhone layout on iPad.
And Jitsi seems like something for my fit - will give it a go now and see how it runs! Thanks folks!

tchart: As much as I hate Apple, FaceTime is awesome. Much nicer than Skype but does require both parties to have a "I" device.

That looks quite interesting - How well does it work?
You really dont want to install and have running Viber/Skype/Google Hangouts/Yahoo/whatever to talk to the various products. I was moaning just the other day what a pain the fragmented nature of comms has become - maybe this is the solution...
EDIT: Well - maybe its not quite all things to all people - but the concept looked promising

Viber for desktop has video calling but you can only use it to video call another viber desktop.
