I am with 2talk.

How do you do number 3?

Get a SIP client. I did this for a few months with SIPDroid. It was quite nice being able to take and make calls from my "homeline" pretty much anywhere where there was wifi.

PS: My list would be pretty similar to the above, along with easily blacklisting numbers. I'm with 2talk too.

I use the android app Zoiper. It works very well when at home and even over 3G (with good signal strength)

My only problem is that when I arrive at the office my phone switches to the corporate WIFI. They block VOIP.

Now apparently you can use a STUN server to get around this problem. Has anybody had success in configuring something like this before? I would love my VOIP to work on any wifi network and not be limited to my home wifi or 3G use.

Favourite feature of voip? the ability to hangup or not answer :P

Call recording of all calls and definitely being able to receive calls anywhere in the world on a single number without horrid roaming charges.

STUN is just a way to help with NAT. It helps the device figure out it's public IP and port better. So it could help with the corporate network has advanced NAT rules in place sending stuff all over the show. But if they simply have a firewall rule that says 'SIP shall not pass!!!!' (said like Gandolf) STUN won't help you.

I would recommend the 2Talk Connect App. It is really good and seems to be able to register behind just about anything.

Just tried it out now. Thanks for the tip. But not able to register on the corporate WIFI network.

Your work is probably blocking most ports outside of 80/443

I use CSIPsimple and it works great and doesn't seem to have a material effect on battery life. I have it set to stay registered as long as I'm on either WiFi, or 3G or better.

I've found with other SIP apps (Like Bria), they wouldn't let my phone go into 'sleep' mode and sucked the battery - but CSIPsimple seems to let this happen fine, but still be able to wake it up as a call comes in.

Is csipsimple better for battery than built in Android SIP? I kinda thought that Android SIP would be the best at battery life?

When you set up call forwarding, does that outgoing call to your specified number get charged a minute from your voip plan? So say if you were on 2talk10 and you set up call forwarding to your mobile. I'm guessing you would have to pay the couple of cents per minute of that call forwarded?

Yes, you do pay but depending on your 2talk mobile bundle it is only 7 - 10c/minute (+GST)
