Have to admit when I was running voip for tcl/voda, Polycom IP650's were the shiz... just needed pairing with a wideband HD friendly wireless headset, but im hoping things have moved on since then

I've got a VVX1500 on my desk. An ancient beast of a phone, but still works really well.

Well a few years ago I purchased a few Fanvil BW530 phones as a trial (price was right) - while they worked the firmware was awful and the physical handset quality itself wasn't great I ended up binning the lot worst IP phones I've ever used. Hopefully the newer models are better but if it were me I would stick with the likes of Yealink.

That's really interesting! Thanks rphenix for posting this. It's good to get a mix of different people's opinions. Seeing the discussion around Everlea and Fanvil I had gone investigating (waiting on a response back from sales team atm), thinking that I might grab a few models to look at... Now maybe I'll just get one at first and see if things look OK before trying others.

I see that another poster (well respected by many, including me) was quite keen on Panasonic SIP phones, whereas when I tested some of their cordless models I found them to be almost the worst web and phone UIs that I'd come across! I wouldn't go near them with a barge pole. So my experience there and yours here with Fanvil illustrate how different people have different opinions and probably also different application requirements.

It's always good to get everyone's input in the mix and share the collective experience :)

I would say the Fanvil web interface is OK. I prefer yealink, but probably only because I am so used to it.

Most of the time its a non-issue as we use auto-provisioning.

The only thing I can't comment on Fanvil about is longevity - just haven't used enough of them or had them deployed long enough.

Personally hate Panasonic SIP phones and PBXs too... stupidest UI and deployment method I have seen from a system. People do say good things about their DECT products though!

Good point the web UIs on the Panasonic's are ugly, and those cordless desk phones with a handsfree slave are horrible. The inability to turn off missed call log on the UT123s is annoying; but they are reliable and good build quality (the desk phone models)

used to use grandstream phones and the UCM boxes - don't now.

have installed a few panasonic kx-uds124 sip multi cell dect systems from snappernet - no issues

build quality is subjective and not an issue if the device does what it should - price shouldn't be an issue but for some business owners it is...

like what you have to support.

I've the GXP2170 up and running and it's alright. Voice quality is fine but the menus are a bit sluggish and the BLF LEDs waaaay too bright but it'll do.

Quick question... it uses a different format for setting the call progress tones thank the Linksys. It's in the format of:

f1=440,f2=480,c=200/400;

Does anybody have a cheat sheet for NZ tones? I'm getting an American ringing tone at present.

NZ ring, 400Hz + 450Hz, cadence is 400ms on, 200ms off, 400ms on, 2000ms off.

If you want easy integration and provisioning with FreePBX you can't go past the Sangoma phones. They aren't distributed in NZ but are easy enough to buy from Amazon.

We purchased 150 of the S500’s, and while the integrate nicely with FreePBX, they are unreliable, lock up, need frequent reboots etc.

We are looking at Polycom, and Digium options for critical areas currently.

Here's what I'm using:

System Ring Tone: f1=400,f2=450,c=40/20-40/200;

Dial Tone: f1=400,f2=0;

Second Dial Tone: f1=425,f2=0;

Message Waiting: f1=400,f2=0,c=10/10;

Ring Back Tone: f1=400,f2=450,c=40/20-40/200;

Call-Waiting Tone: f1=400,f2=0,c=20/300-20/300-20/300;

Busy Tone: f1=400,f2=0,c=50/50;

Reorder Tone: f1=400,f2=0,c=25/25;

Steve... any chance you could elucidate on *why* you wouldn't recommend Grandstream phones? And, if you felt like writing those 5,000 words on choosing an IP phone, go ahead...!

We have customers with Grandstreams and we hate them for a single reason. The passthrough is *terrible* it wouldn't be an exaggeration for once every few days or a week, we have to tell a user to reboot their phone as they are having some network issue on their PC. Quite a few times we have had to factory reset them.

Cisco SPA 303 FTW ;) Got one on my home office desk and it just keeps on going. Does what I want and didnt cost me a cent.

I really liked the Snom 720, not sure if they may be too expensive for you, but IMHO they are a better build quality than yealink, but the price represents that though i guess.
