One thing that has surprised me about Europe is the large number of Wi-Fi hotspots, they are literally everywhere including many that are free. There were a lot in Germany and I've also seen several here in Prague as well.
Back OT... Saw the iTalk phone on DSE today. It looks like those kitsch phones - with large crystal-like plastic buttons. At least a decent size LCD. Does it allow calls to another iTalk phones for free (or does it require the softphone for this?)
I am arranging the Skype Dual Phone for a review and will post shortly.
Yes you can call any italk number for free as well as any 09 number. All italk allocated numbers are in the 09 region at the moment anyway but they are expanding throughout the country "soon" but that's been some time coming. The phones they have are quite basic but very good, you can buy any SIP compliant device yourself and use it with the network it just requires configuration which is pretty simple. In their forums they also mention a toll only service may appear soon which won't give you a physical phone number, this is probably the best way to grow their business - offer people 5c per min calls and not force them to pay a monthy fee. This offers you a real alternative to the other toll providers.
iTalk is very nice.. I have used one ( I have woosh for portability) and I recommend it highly.
The phones LOOK just like those horrible "otara market" or "otahuhu main street china-shop" phones but looks can be deceiving..
They have lovely big buttons and are of excellent quality and nice and loud, They were linked up to Asterisk and this house system had 3 providers, one on Aust, one in the states and something else along with iTalk.
I'll be possibly dropping Woosh shortly (moving outta Auckland!) so this will be a keen project :-)
No wonder Telecom is getting so eager to go VoIP!!!!! ha ha ha!
