Yes that is correct, but you can send all your incoming numbers to just one number regardless of what number it is registered to. I suggest you make a free 2talk account and have a look at what is possible. Maybe someone from 2talk could say something on this thread? if they are reading.
I've got a free account setup, but that doesn't give me multiple numbers to play with, also have sent an email off to 2talk, although that was a couple of days ago, no response yet
That is the one down side with 2talk, they are busy people I guess. You can setup as many 028 numbers as you want(think there is a limit of 7 or something) and they free to call each other, maybe you try it out like that. If you look at call forwarding and trunking maybe that will work for you?
Wendo: Well after some emails back and forward with WxC it seems they no longer do SIP trunking over the internet for anything more than home connections. Anything else you have to get a dedicated connection from them.
News to me? Just make sure your ISP participates in peering through the peering exchanges so that traffic between your ISP and WXC is quick. I do recommend a dedicated connection, or vlan off some bandwidth for your IP PBX to WXC (that doesn't mean the connection has to be with WXC/Xnet, just that the data with whoever your using is dedicated for the PBX).
I would push a bit harder if your going for the DVX product and your on a half decent connection WXC shouldn't have a problem. I'n my opinion you definitely want to use WXC over 2talk.
I did get in touch with WxC again via Josh's earlier reply and got further this time. Our connection is fine (less than 20ms and only 5 hops to WxC) but then political issues cropped up on our side that I'm trying to work through... sigh
Wendo: The server is setup and I've been testing with IAX softphones initially to get around any firewall problems but once we get the incoming lines sorted, we'll be moving to SIP hardphones, probably Yealink T20P's, they are seemingly decent quality, with good reviews and have a good price. This means I'll have to open SIP to the internet, something I'd really rather not do but I can't configure VPN's at everyone house so this is it.
Don't do that.
Instead setup an OpenVPN server, your already looking at Yealinks (good choice) so instead look at the T26p or T28p ; bigger handsets, cost a bit more but have native openvpn support, so you can provision them in your office with a vpn config, and hand them to your co-workers to take home, that way you only open up the openvpn port.
Most peoples home networks allow outbound traffic, and openvpn is an SSL VPN so it will be easy.
I've had staff use phones in netcafe's over openvpn and no dramas at all.
It's actually been open for a few weeks now, but as I said the firewall only allows NZ connections and fail2ban is running. There hasn't been a single unwanted attempt to get in via the open port from within NZ, and the firewall is dropping all other connection attempts (of which there have been 10-20 every hour).
In saying that, I'll be seeing if I can push for the bigger phones as that sounds like a much better solution. Thanks for the heads up.
