Out of interest - I am on telstra cable triple package at home = tv+phone+40gb with a Linksys WRT54g wireless router in roof connected via ethernet cable to xbox / master pc.

A Cisco SRP521 would be your best option. Would replace the Linksys WRT54g, and it's WAN port would be connected to you cable modem. You can then wire in the FXS port (phone port) into your existing home phone wiring to run your existing phones. Make sure your phone wiring is cut off from the outside world - or get someone in who knows what they are doing to set this up.

Alternatively as Steve says, get a triple DECT cordless phone pack.
Or you could go with something like a Snom M9, or others have tried various Siemens IP cordless DECT phones.

@maverick @joshp

Have you seen any issues with SPA112 having provisioning issues when connected to Telecom supplied Thomson TG585 router? I'm having an issue with one of these. It would accept sbiddle's config, but it's not accepting the the VFX config.

Jon-Paul was looking at this yesterday for me.

Thanks
Fraser

maverick: Yes there is the spa232d ... expected in March and will also have a dect handset option as well

Would be nice if Cisco would change these so you can power them with 12v not 5v with the 2.1m jack that's becoming more standard.

I've given my self a heart attack a couple of times after pushing 12v into them by mistake.

voip888 guy says they are the shizzle with fax but I'd like to know what others think.

Not yet. Though I have a few SPR527 out there working very well, and i suspect the voice hardware in these would be similar.

Actually funny you should ask that, was talking with the Product manger in the US for these and there is an issue apparently , expecting a firmware update tonight that  may be the issue, just got your PM and taking a look now,

Would also add not something we have seen during testing here , had the guys go through it here again and no issues seen , may be something with the Thomson router, but hopefully if I get this firmware tonight we can take a look

The voice module in the SRP500 series is obviously vastly superior to the old SPA2102's and WRP400's when it comes to faxing, and I also reckon the voice quality is also better.

I've encountered the odd faxing issue using T.38 with SPA2102's even with the newest firmware that improved T.38 support, but faxing using T.38 on an SRP521 is rock solid in my experience.

As for alarm systems it depends whether it's using ContactID or not. ContactID can work over VoIP but the issues most ATA's struggling with the high speed DTMF tones and RFC2833 conversion. At the end of the day there is no way I'd ever configure an alarm over an ATA because it's just not 100% guaranteed. IP ContactID on the other hand is Contact ID -> ethernet modules aren't expensive.

I assume the Cisco DECT handsets will ship to NZ as well? Any rough idea of the price for the 222d/232d and phones yet?

Will the DECT addons support HD voice?
