Just received this email from TCL:

Subject: Important: Cable Modem Outage Notification

Dear Customer

We are making changes to our cable network in the Christchurch
region.

To carry out the required work, we must impose a brief outage of your
cable modem service.

The outage will occur at the following time:

The morning of Tuesday the 21th of November 2006 between 00.01am and
6am.

The actual impact on your individual service will be for approximately
15mins within this time. Normal service will resume by 6am.

We apologise for this disruption to service and any inconvenience this
may cause you.

If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact us on
0800 467 272.



NOTE: You may need to turn your modem off and on again at the wall to
re-establish connection after the outage.

Firstly, why does making changes to the cable network in Chch affect us in Wgtn?

Secondly, why send the notification after it's happened?

Um, they sent you an outage notification after the outage was supposed to have occurred? haha
and yeh about chch when you say your in wellington!

I never recieve any emails from TC, not one since being connected.

You can have one of mine - I seem to get the same message twice every time.  Seriously though - are you using the Clear or Paradise email address that comes with your broadband plan?  The notifications only go to that email address.

My notifications come through to my work address - they asked the address to use when we signed up. Never checked our Clear Net address.

Due to an increase in demand, we are required to carry out an upgrade
of our cable network in the Wellington/Kapiti region.

To carry out this upgrade, a temporary outage of your cable modem
service is required.

The outage will be for a maximum period of 6 hours on:

The morning of Tuesday the 28th of November 2006 between 00.01am and
06.00am.

Normal service should resume by 6am.

You may need to turn your modem off and on again at the wall to
re-establish connection after the outage.

another lengthy outage! geeze - this is bs!
If you count the 11 hours last night, the 6 hours next tuesday, and all the micro-outages.. I'm sure this would equate to close to 24hours of downtime this month!
