Area Affected:

Nationwide

Customer Impact:

Currently customers may be experiencing a loss of service to their internet connections; this also appears to be affecting Webmail and outlook access to e-mails. Customers will also be unable to access usage meters and other self service options. We are aware and working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

So according to something updated before the event starting it's going to take at least a day to fix. Hopefully they actually get onto it and fix it.

The Proxy Was Unable to Fulfill Your Request

The proxy was unable to fulfill your request because the computer at www-server.telstraclear.co.nz:80 refused the proxy's connection(s).

I just hope they're on the phone to their webserver and/or email server technical support. And that they're still waiting on hold, while a stupid advertising message tells them JUST HOW GREAT their Email/Webserver really is.  Then after 5 hours being on hold, being told how great the service really is, that they get hungup on and have to call back.

Because that's the pain I get when I call them, and I'd just love them to have some of it back right now.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

I can assure them there were problems before this, as my Paradise mail wasn't working when I got home from work last night before 6pm.  It's unusal for us not to get at least a few emails a day, but there were none showing on the webmail interface (which was "working" at that time), and any mail sent to it didn't show.  Then, later in the evening my test messages showed up, and the system promptly crashed again at around 10:30p.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else suspects that they've lost emails into the ether?

I lol'd.. so true.. I really hope a senior TC network engineer is talking to some guy in Manilla going "Yes i've reset my router, now put me through to someone who's not reading from a script damn you"

Damn - I've not downloaded my Paradise.Net emails for a week, so I'm hoping I won't be in the boat of having lost emails! Will be grumpy if I do lose 'em!

Just can't get through to anything other than the Paradise home page and the webmail login... but the later denies knowing me!

According to a statement from the company, “Our mail servers went offline yesterday evening” and “all of our TelstraClear Paradise and ClearNet email users were affected.”

From http://www.techday.co.nz/netguide/news/email-outage-strikes-telstraclear/18675/1/

Also Stuff http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/4323107/Fault-wipes-out-TelstraClear-email-services
Looks like they have been working all night, the outage was from 4:50pm yesterday

Latest updates from TelstraClear are on twitter http://twitter.com/TelstraClearNZ#

Looks like the NOC staff are posting directly which is kinda cool.

Saying back after lunch or latter.

I just tried the http://networkstatus.telstraclear.co.nz/ URL, and the IE tab heading said

"TelstraClear - Now's Good"

Kinda disappointing to then discover that now's still actually BAD }:-(

It also sounds like the servers are not in their own data centre as they have lost contact with them would usually mean they are not reachable by any means including good old feet and console access.
does anyone know if these are hosted somewhere in NZ? or off shore?

From TC's Twitter :

Our Network Status page on TelstraClear.co.nz has been unavailable internally which is why it hasn't been updated ^NOC

We have your best interest at heart. We are working very hard to resolve the issues and we will keep you posted here on any updates. ^TN

Pretty sure they are in NZ, from their twitter feed, it looks like a underlying storage problem, sounds like a SAN outage.
