I'd image that most 'clever clogs' will buy a bit of hardware in order to get the cheaper OEM product. Would you know if the Express Upgrade is redeemable yet? (Not that I have one...)

P.S. Eight hundred bucks also buys an XBOX 360 with a wireless/game bundle

Just a dim question... how do the upgrade licenses work? Do they literally upgrade the existing OS installation or can they do a complete installation (definitely the preferable option)?

I'm currently running WinXP Pro SP2 and trying to work out my options.

As for the upgrade, I am checking this, but I had the impression it needs Windows XP to be installed for the upgrade option to be valid. I will reply back here when I have some more information.

I think Windows Vista Home Basic allows for a 'preferred' clean installation as well as the typical upgrade installation. I think that's what I read somewhere... someone else may be able to give a more definite answer.

Er... Have you seen how much is the Mac OS X? And you realise that from 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4 there's no free upgrade and no upgrade price?

Also, yes there are free options. But does it come with support?

Doesn't an academic version mean you can't do updates as per the following quote from Ascent's FAQs?
