Hi all i've just put a fresh copy of windows vista premium on my laptop I was running win vista home basic and nows its seriously slow! My laptop is a dual core with 2gb ram..any ideas why or wat I can do too speed things up cause its pretty frustrating..I wouldn't have thought it would have made a difference upgrading from basic too premium.

I want to know why you upgraded to vista and not just to windows7?

Just because that's what it originally was running..the laptop is a acer aspire 5100..the only things i've upgraded in it is a stick of 1gb ram too boat it too 2gb..it was running fine on vista home basic but runs really crappy on home premium..what does he mean buy memory in ssd drivers?

Windows 7 will perform a lot better than Vista on the same hardware.

Windows 7 will be a lot better. Make sure you have all the drivers for this laptop installed - video, network, motherboard.

If the hardware supports it use 64 bit version and 4GB RAM.

Windows 7 is a lot better than Windows Vista - newer version with lots of the problems fixed.

One additional thing to try is disabling Aero, the video card in that laptop if my Google-fu is accurate is woeful.

no such thing as an upgrade when running vista, I think you'll find downgrade is more commonly used in sentences with Vista in them. As others have said Windows 7 will run much better than Vista on the same hardware.

Cool thanks guys..yea when my lappie is just sitting still without running any programs the hdd thing light flashes off and on continuissly..never really did that on win vista home basic..hope when I put on windows 7itll make it run smother

It will run much smoother and you would like the windows 7 experience as well..

In my opinion, Windows 7 is what vista should have been..

ok just another quick qestion..is windows7 in a ntfs format or a fat32..just i use my laptop to burn off large files onto 8.5gb dual layed discs and if it has too be ntfs format then i might not do it..just imgburn requires to have a fat32 format i think to do wat i wanna do
