Hi all

13yo daughters Acer 5720 laptop wont run Vista, locks up after a few secs, can move mouse but no keyboard or mouse clickability. No recovery disks, and an error on the partition based restore.

Installed Win 8 CP (she loves it), but no audio, the specs indicate Acer 3DSound and Intel HD Audio, the latter is installed in Device Manager and in the audio applet, but no audio. Cannot get driver for Win7 off Acer website as it states that all other drivers will be installed by Win 7. Tried some audio drivers that were there with no result.

Any ideas?  I have another Acer laptop, 5738ZG, I may create recovery disks, but unsure if I can access driver files if its a a one file restore setup.

Tks to all

Fixed

Seems to be a not uncommon issue. The drivers made no difference, nor did a suggested command line to correct Services. The fix, or workaround, is to send the laptop to sleep, waken it, and bingo, audio works. No doubt this will be fixed in a Windows Update

Windows 8 CP is old. If you don't have access to Windows 8 RTM or don't want the Windows 8 90 days trial, download Windows Release preview which is a version before RTM was released and updated a whole lot of things.

Do whatever you want to do man.

It is Release Preview in fact, my mistake.
