I would like to upgrade my windows 7 install to windows 8. Don't talk to me about a fresh install - I have particular reasons to want to upgrade and I have been using MS OSes Since MS-Dos 3.3. I know the reasons not to.
I have a legit OEM copy of Win7 Ultimate.
ANYWAY, on this page...
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
I see this:
Upgrading from … What you can keepWindows 7
Apps, Windows settings, and personal files
The windows 8 Upgrade assistant (top of the above page) runs and when I select I want to keep "Windows settings, personal files and apps" it happily recommends the $50 upgrade and lets me purchase. (I backed out)
HOWEVER< the most recent page I can see here:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msnz/en_NZ/pdp/productID.258308100#tab2
Says this:
"Upgrading to Windows 8
If your PC is running Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, your files, programs and settings will easily transfer to Windows 8. If your PC is running Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate, Windows XP or Windows Vista, you will need to reinstall your programs." (My bold)
So, anyone know which is correct? The more specific MSNZ page says that Windows 7 Ultimate and Pro cannot retain installed programs, but the other pages make no distinction.
Anyone?
Cheers - N
