After running the Windows 8 compatibility check, it states:

Your screen resolution doesn't meet the requirement to install apps from the Windows StoreYou need a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 to install and use apps from the Windows Store (this includes apps that might be pre-installed on your PC). You might be able to change your resolution in the Display Control Panel.

My screen resolution is set to 1280 x 720 so it isn't going to work.

If i set it to 1280 x 768, it doesn't stretch to the end of my monitor.

It can go up to 1920 x 1080 but this is way too small for me... anything in between does not fit the screen.

How can I get around this???? Any ideas?

Change to the highest resolution and then change the DPI so the fonts are bigger?

With a 1920x720 resolution I assume a TV or the likes.

Just a standard 19 inch Samsung LCD.

I also have it connected to my 55 inch TV in the lounge however i use it at this resolution because of eye sight issues.

Changing the font size has worked perfectly on the highest resolution though, thanks for the tip :)

A little OT but seems in windows 8 there is no longer an indication of DPI when changing the text size using the percentage slider. Meaning you can no longer use a DPI finding tool to figure out your 'zoom' level

Set the display to its recommended (max) resolution

Then get hold of a ruler and hit windows key, search 'DPI' then go to the settings tab on th start screen, select 'make text and other items bigger or smaller' and select custom sizing options. From here you will use a ruler to drag the inch markers on screen to match the inch markers on your ruler. When you have got it right, apply the changes and it will ask you to log out, log back in and you will be good to go.

This will mean that the text is sharper, everything will look better and the text will be of a readable size.

1: The minimum resolution in which Windows 8 Windows Store apps will run is 1024x768.

2: The minimum resolution required to support all the features of Windows 8 (including multitasking with snap) is 1366x768

There are some hacks and tweaks to try and get smaller resolutions to work, your mileage may vary.

If i change my resolution to 1920 x 1080 and increase the text size, it should be fine though shouldn't it?

Ideally you should use the native resolution of your screen and adjust the font scaling in windows.

You could try these resolutions if they are available.

They should fit your monitor (16:9 ratio) better.

1365x768
1600x900

mmm ... big engineering fail or 1280x720 are so rare that the oversight is on purpose? can you buy a new 1080p monitor?
