My brother just unplugged his flashdrive from the back of my computer today and soon as he removed it from the back of the usb port in my computer I had a Windows No Disk error (which is still popping appearing on my screen now no matter what I click on or try to end in my task manager) it just won't go away and my registry, msconfig etc are all opening in notepad my documents keeps opening when i restart computer. This is the first virus flash drive virus ive ever had on my computer , windows xp sp3 and finding it extremely hard to find help online with an actual solution that works, registry clean ups virus scans have not helped at all and just to see what the virus is i plugged an unused ipod into my usb and now that is infected with whatever was on the flashdrive as well

Are you sure it's a virus and not just a problem?

I'd suggest if you're lost, take it to your local computer shop for a look. Going to be hard to troubleshoot on a forum!

Turn off autorun for a start.
What antivirus software are you using, is it up to date?
How do you mean your unused ipod is now infected? I don't know of many cross platform viruses (or do you mean the virus plopped a copy of the windows EXE onto it).

What "solutions" have you tried?

Yeah this isn't even half of whats going on and cant fix much when everything is opening in the wrong programs just thought someone might have a quick fix on here or advice

Quick fix: reinstall Windows.

Anything else, you're going to need someone who knows what they're doing to look at it directly :)

what was running when flashdrive removed or what was it doing there in first place, put it back in!

Certainly no expert but doesn't sound like virus. Have you tried starting in safe mode although it may not be driver related.

Have you tried disabling autorun as suggested

Plug the USB drive back in, shutdown the computer. Remove the drive then start the computer again.

bit iffy to plug the flash drive back into the usb port as my bro informed me after he removed it from my comp he was trying to delete a corrupt folder off of it. I stupidly put my ipod in that HAD nothing on it after that and now its got new folder.exe and some other random named empty folders in it that ive never heard of. There is now also empty folders named weird things in my documents folder on my computer and keep coming back when i try to delete the.

I fixed the windows no disk error and fixed it so my registry no longer opens in NotePad like it was but still have all these folders that won't go away when deleted and my documents keeps opening when my computer starts up.
Is there a free online virus scanner that you could suggest I try that will remove whatever it is that is on my comp from this flash drive. Or does it not sound like my comp has a virus but something else?

Ok, if it has a folder.exe then certainly something bad on that drive. Have you tried running Microsoft Safety Scanner and then Housecall?

Those anti-malware programs are free and don't need to be installed - just download and execute.

Thanks Mauricio I do have the microsoft link bookmarked just haven't gotten around to using it today cause ive been googling and reading forums for the last 7hours i will give these online scanners a try, I have heard of folder.exe but never had them myself til 2day any help is appreciated cheers for the links.
