The new box is running Windows XP Professional Pirated corporate edition which I installed for a test a week back.... The old Pentium 4 box is running XP Home, legit.

Today I bought another stuffed computer in a very nice case with the all-important XP Pro Licence on it (mainly for the licence, the case was just a bonus!) How do I put in that valid serial number to make it legit? I tried the usual method but it did not accept it.

The corporate version will not accept a retail or OEM serial. You will have to reinstall.

It can be done,

You will need Windows XP OEM CD

Boot off it, dont choose the first Repair option but the 2nd one that comes up

Google it for the whole procedure, you wont loose any of you pre existing Windows Setup

The OEM license is for that specific CPU and motherboard combination and valid for first use (the original equipment it was intended for) and not for other uses.

As this is very out of our Firum Guidelines I am locking this discussion.
