As part of upgrading our security it was recommended that we move to Bitlocker for our laptop fleet.

The team did a test on a Toshiba Portege (I5) installing Windows 7 Enterprise (32bit SP1) on it and then enabled Bitlocker.

That seemed to work okay (we did upgrade the HD to a SSD to make up for any performance hits).

But now the laptop won't shut down.

Choose shutdown and Windows starts to shutdown and then hangs on the wallpaper.

Pressing the power button causes a partial shutdown in that the screen goes blank but clearly the unit is still on.

Only long press of the power shuts it down but then on restart you get Windows did not shutdown properly etc.

I can't find any relevant hits in the usual sources apart from this hit

But when we tried to install this, it said the fix was not appropriate for our system.

Anybody encountered this and if so, what did you do?

Did you do a fresh OS install when replacing the storage with the SSD?

Have you configured the storage drivers to use AHCI mode? Are you using the Microsoft AHCI drivers or the ones supplied by the storage subsystem?

Is TRIM enabled correctly?

Thanks the boys have told me it's fixed. Did none of the above but will check but discovered if the machine is logged onto the domain it shuts down okay. It was not shutting down when logged onto the local machine.

i have asked them to check what happens when the machine is logged onto a domain account (but offline using cached credentials). If a user has to hard power off in that situation, it will be messy.
