Hey guys,

I have a new PC without any OS pre-installed.  I put in my Vista Home Premium DVD and it loads fine.  But when it gets to the part that asks you where you want to install the OS to, it does not show my hard drive.

In my BIOS, it does recognise my hard drive.  I tried to format it on that same screen but it says it may be "read-only".

Can anyone help!!!!???  Thanks!

It sounds like you need to load the drivers for this device...

I think it is a Seagate hard drive.

How do I load the driver or even get it? I cannot find a driver for my hard drive. Could you assist? I read you must use a floppy drive or something. I hope you can make do with a USB stick.

It is not the driver for the hard drive, but the driver for the controller on your motherboard. It is on a folder on the CD that came with the motherboard (you have it, right) or a floppy disc (you have it right?)

Otherwise, go to the manufacturer's website and download from there.

Yes, I do have the Gigabyte motherboard CD.  There are a few folders in there and they don't really make sense.  There is an install function but it would only install on this computer and obviously not on the new PC without the OS.

When installing Vista there is an option to load drivers. Use that to browse the motherboard CD for the drivers. Check the Chipset folder and there should be a subfolder with the name Intel or something along those lines, then select your chipset (G33) and find the inf file somewhere in there.

Yes, there is a folder called Chipset.

The subfolders are:

EnableUSB
HECI
INFUpdate
INSHelp
MSM
USB20
VGA
XPR2

There is another folder called DriverCD, however, I dunno what to do with all the non-executable files  Does not have any INF files.

It turns out the hard disk was faulty.  The new replacement didn't need any drivers etc.  All good!  Thanks for the help.
