Since upgrading to Win 8/8.1 I have had issues accessing most international websites with poor/no response and timeouts. NZ hosted domains are fine. This has been an ongoing issue since upgrading multiple devices to Win8. Acer & HP equipment connecting off VDSL. Single Win7 device never had a problem. The Win 8 devices all run Nortons, one of which I completely removed to see if this was the issue. Tried disabling IPv6 (after advice from Microsoft).

I have spent months researching this. Do I just take all devices back to Win7?

Seems to be a pretty common issue. Flushing the DNS cache seems to help but I have to do it multiple times a day, which is irritating.

are you on spark using their Technicolor modem?

if yes then the answer is you need to manually set DNS on each of your win 8.1 sytems and that will fix it

Yes, it's the Technicolor modem. So have to ask a newbie question. Where do I manually set (& what) the DNS?

common issue? are you on Technicolor DSL modem too?

Do it on each Windows 8.1 device connected to the Technicolor until Spark swap out your modem

On the Ethernet adapter connected to your Technicolor, either wired or wireless

Start, run, ncpa.cpl, find the adapter, find the dns settings and change from automatic to 8.8.8.8

If you're using that same PC and same network adapter in a workplace etc, changing that will cause you problems outside of home, hence why you need to get Spark to actually fix it not the workaround

This doesn't affect local domains, only international traffic. Is what you suggest fix this?

you can run this bat script to fix the DNS issue in that modem https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/27411242/dnsissues.bat it requires telnet to be enabled.
