Visit https://preview.onedrive.com/bonus, allow OneDrive to drop a file into your Dropbox and laugh away with another 100GB in your account.

Unsure why MS would do something like this? What would they gain?

They're trying to piss the NSA off.  Imagine having 1000s of copies of the same file indexed.

Isn't it only for a year? Often comapnies will give away a service free for a year, you use most of the diskspace which  hooks people in, and then you pay from then on.

Sure, 100GB for one year. Then after that you may have enough stored there to subscribe to the service. Or by then instead of 15GB the default will be 100GB and another promotion comes on and so.

Why Microsoft and Google do this? Because they want people using the services. Once you put a 100GB there you will think twice before moving to another provider.

I had just come off the 100GB OneDrive rename offer, and had actually purchased one month of 100GB ($3NZD).  Promptly cancelled it after getting the 100GB Bing offer and this one.

what are the chances of keeping the 100GB after one year - yes -> install. no -> waste of time

Bunch of cynics around here.  It's free, it's for a year... there's free deals all the time so just move your data around if you don't want to pay.  I just moved all my data from the 500GB free Mega Slingshot deal to OneDrive last month.  It's not hard.

Quite a hassle to move and reupload data, but depends on how much you value time to do this. They are doing it to make their service more 'sticky'.

If there was a direct way to move between the different providers then perhaps, but stuff doing a reupload of everything on crappy vdsl upload speeds.

Could be worse. You could be on crappy ADSL speeds!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.
