Hey guys,
(Don't laugh)
I'm not a big 'thin client' expert but I kind of thought that I might be able to turn one into an image slide show provider for a digital photo frame.

I bought one from Trademe...cheap as obviously...but I think I might have misunderstood the thin client concept.

Can I actually use this in a stand alone form? or does it need a network connection to even boot up?

It would seem it does not boot at present, so my presumption ix that an embedded OS like Windows CE 6.0 is not present.

Has anyone got any tips or advice or help as to how I might get this thing to simply play some photos from a USB stick onto the attached monitor?

Thank you.

J

I have a large collection of thin clients myself, Windows xp embedded and Windows CE.
I can confirm that the Windows XP embedded ones do not need a server to login, not 100% sure about the Windows CE ones.
I had a massive stash of Windows CE apps a year ago, might try to find it again.

Think I might actually have one of these at home somewhere I could test if I manage to find the ac adapter.

thanks @nedkelly !

So the thing wont boot to anything so perhaps it has had Windows CE removed...
I'll need to find an image somewhere or ask the seller to provide.

Any tips or trials you can try will be appreciated.

thank you.

T
op left corner of that image is the flash chip, thin clients of this age did not have hard drives.

Does yours look the same?

Probbaly zapped by the prev owner to ensure no personalised data on there (going about it the not so friendly way)

HP offer image sets for them freely. As its how the OS's get updates etc
