I just updated to the bug fix update that was just released and ever since updating I have been unable to access the start menu, search, edge, file explorer, notification center and any other Microsoft program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im guessing its windows 10? I had a similar issue and rebooting again after the update seemed to fix it, if you have not tried that already

Well, firstly the good news: You're not alone.

The bad news: I couldn't fix this on my wife's laptop; eventually clean-reinstalled Windows 10 to fix.

There are a number of hits in Google when you search for "Windows 10 start button not working"

You could try the fix (a PowerShell script) as suggested on https://www.techmesto.com/fix-start-menu-broken-windows-10-technical-preview/; but this didn't work on my wife's PC.  (I know that link says "preview", but the page also reports issue on final release).

Apparently creating a new user and logging in with that will also work - the lack of working "start" is a symptom of profile corruption; however, whilst this did seem to work on my wife's laptop, due to other issues (regular crashes when sleeping), we first tried to revert back to 8.1 (not really successful), and eventually the clean install.  It's still not 100% yet either!

Sorry, couldn't be much more help.

OK thanks for the reply. I'll try the new user method and see if it works.
