Hey, I want to be able to access my own desktop from any remote computer.. is this possible at all?? where would i start looking to do this??

www.logmein.com is the way to go... No firewall changes or port forwarding required.

I voice for LogMeIn (Free) too... It's the easiest and the most secure way to get to your PC remotely and without too much effort and mucking around to set up the firewall ports etc. With LogMeIn, you can add as many PCs/Macs as you want into a single management screen to access remotely from there.

I used to use Windows built-in Remote Desktop, and now I reckon LogMeIn offers far superior setup and access.

Internet is my backyard...

I use No-Ip. It just turns your Ip address into a web address, and changes with your dns etc. Its good, but you need port forwarding etc.
