Hi Guys,

A few weeks ago I rebuilt my PC and fresh installed Windows 10 on my brand new 240 GB SSD.

A few weeks later and I've noticed I've suddenly got "2.33" GB free when looking at the "This PC" window.

However when I select all of the sub folders and file (including hidden files/folders) and right click, the total dick space used is "114 GB".

The 114 GB is roughly what the usage was prior to this sudden jump and I would say is the "acutal" usage.

I've cleared the downloads, temp and recycle bin to no avail. Something seems to be reserving half my SSD and making the PC almost unusable.

use something like treesize to see where all the space us used

It's possible windows update keep old windows files when updating to newer version. Try running disk cleanup and make sure to check (can't remember the name) something to do with rollback or uninstall.

Diskcleanup and once it shows the list click the button to clear system files.

download something like Spacesniffer

Should be able to show you where your space is being used

You have to turn system restore to use 0% (or 1% if it's the min) of the drive before you turn it off. Delete restore points. I've also seen something strange with hidden partitions once. And the disk cleanup too cleaning system files.

My W10 install with plenty of programs and such is around 40GB.

Menu|System
Select "Storage" from list.
Double-click on the system drive on the pane on the right.
Wait a few seconds for it to analyse drive contents.
Click on listed items for more detail and options.
Voila. It actually works.

Downloaded TreeSize and it turns out to be a folder called "Packages" which is under "[Username]" -> "AppData" -> "Local" -> "Packages". That folder was taking up nearly 50% of my drive. Any ideas what it is, and why it filled up my drive in a few weeks?

Also my system restore was already set to use 300MB max, so that wasn't the issue, what thanks for the suggestions everyone!
