I have recently set up a Dropbox account and uploaded a bunch of files.  I later worked on one of the files on my PC and two days later the Dropbox version has still not synced.  I have looked up the Dropbox help and asked Google but none of the suggestions work.

 

Can one of our experts offer assistance?

Yes, on both my desktop and my Android tablet.  Both can see the file in Dropbox in its unupdated form.

Ok, so how are you updating the file?  Are you editing the file located within the PC's 'Dropbox' folder?

 

 

 

I must admit I have not tried that myself yet and just relied on it to copy whatever is on my Dropbox down to local PC for backup (I sync from iPhone photos -> Dropbox -> local PC then when at 4gb burn them all to DVD).

For Zolly - I edited the file in the PCs location.  It defeats the purpose of Dropbox if it can't update/backup files on the PC.  Or have I got the wrong idea of Dropbox's purpose?

 

For xpd - I uploaded 189Mb of files.  The one I was working on was a spreadsheet 170Kb in size.

I think you have missed the point of Zolly's question. 

 

When you install the Dropbox application on your PC, it creates a specific folder which it uses for synchronizing. (Under the users home directory) 

 

All of your dropbox resources will be in that folder

 

Anything you change in that folder will be uploaded to dropbox, and synchronized with all the other "shares" of this folder. 

 

Anything you change outside of that folder won't be.  Even if it was "uploaded" through the web interface. 

 

Google drive behaves in the same manner. 

 

Apologies if this comes over as patronizing.  I just want to make sure we are all on the same page here.

Aah, I see now.  I edited the file in its original PC location expecting it to be relayed to Dropbox.  It didn't twig that the file had to be edited in the Dropbox folder.
